    Ambassador of the State of Israel, Mr Lior Keinan, and Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr Martin Schäfer hosted the opening of the “Beyond Duty” exhibition remembering Diplomatic Righteous Among the Nations hosted by the Johannesburg Holocaust & Genocide Center on Wednesday, marking the International Holocaust Remembrance day taking place on the 27th of January.  
     
    Righteous Among nations is the official title given to non-Jews who risked their lives in order to rescue Jews during the Holocaust. The exhibition showcased the diplomats from the many countries around the world who committed themselves to saving Jews. At the event, holocaust survivor Veronica Phillips, gave a key note address, as well as Willie (Ze’ev) Criveanu, son of righteous among the nations, Theodor Criveanu.
     
    German Ambassador Martin Schaefer said "This exhibition highlights the exceptional path of brave individuals who showed boldness and courage at a time when so many others did not. They serve as an example . This darkest chapter of our German history teaches us to stand up firm for our values, to defend them. To never forget. "
     
    During the proceedings Israeli Ambassador, Lior Keinan, said “Israel will continue to lead the ongoing efforts to preserve the memory of the Holocaust, as we ensure: “never again”.
